Two things are limited on a boat: space and power. The setup follows those two, the sea handles the rest.

I work as a DJ on yachts, gulets and day boats around Bodrum. A deck setup has to be compact: equipment is secured, cable runs are made safe and power draw is calculated against the boat's generator. Sunset sets and private celebrations are the formats I work most often.

The sea is hard on equipment
A deck brings salt, damp and movement. A setup that behaves perfectly on land shifts on a boat, cables end up underfoot and gear gets wet.
So a boat setup is built differently: every piece is secured, cables are routed away from deck traffic and sensitive equipment is shielded from spray. It takes longer than a setup on land, but nothing moves for the rest of the night.
Sunset is the easiest and the hardest set of the day
Most yacht parties in Bodrum land on sunset. The music has an easy job there, because the view is already doing the work. The hard part is not getting in front of it.
I keep the sunset set calm: slow, wide, and quiet enough to leave conversation alone. As the sun touches the water the level opens slightly, and as the dark settles the energy climbs. By the time the boat turns for the harbour, the night has reached its own peak.
What I ask before a boat event
- The type and length of the boat and the deck layout
- Generator capacity and how many sockets are usable
- Whether the boat has a built-in sound system
- Guest count and the cruising plan
- Departure time, sunset hour and return time
- How long there is at the marina for the setup
Booking from abroad
Boat events are usually arranged from another country, often through a charter company or a broker, and sometimes only days before the date. That is fine, as long as the basics are settled properly.
The agreement is written: date, boarding time, hours, what comes aboard and what it costs. Payment works in pounds, euros, dollars or Turkish lira, whichever your bank makes easiest, and the amount is fixed when you book.
The crew speaks English, which matters more on a boat than anywhere else: space is tight, load-in is quick, and the captain's crew and mine have to agree on where things go without a language gap in the middle.
If a charter company or your concierge is coordinating, I deal with them directly and you stay out of the technical conversation.

Our boat already has a sound system, will you still come?
Yes. A boat's built-in system is often enough, and in that case I connect my own control unit and use the existing speakers. It saves deck space and speeds up the setup.
What size boats do you work on?
From a private celebration for ten to a gulet organisation for eighty. The system changes with the length of the boat, and on smaller boats a single compact position is enough.
What if the power is not enough?
I ask about generator capacity before the setup. If it is tight, I plan a low-draw configuration. A system that strains the boat's power is both a risk and a blackout in the middle of the night.
Do you plan around the sunset hour?
Yes, on boat events the sunset is the backbone of the night. I take the departure and return times too, and split the set into stages around them: cruising, sunset, and after dark.
